The story of Diptyque began at 34 Boulevard St-Germain in Paris, with three friends driven by the same creative passion: Christiane Gautrot, an interior designer; Desmond Knox-Leet, a painter; and Yves Coueslant, a theatre director and set designer. They initially designed fabrics and wallpapers for Liberty and Sanderson before joining forces in 1961 and deciding to open a shop at 34 Boulevard Saint-Germain to showcase their fabric designs.
