Escentric Molecules - Molecule 01+ Mandarin
Iso E Super is an abstract synthetic fragrance with a cedarwood note and a warm, velvety, enveloping effect. Here it is combined with a natural mandarin extract.
"Mandarins are all about the instant kick. They're so vibrant, radiating from their skin with their citrusy tang. But mandarins are more than that; they're also very fruity and aromatic."
A beautiful ingredient. Because of its transparency, it disappears quickly. I enhanced it with a subtle shade and added a mandarin component, the kind used in flavorings, to give it a special juiciness. As it begins to fade, Molecule 01 comes into play, bringing a warm, erotic sensation to the mix with its tingling freshness. It's unusual for a top note like mandarin and a base note like Iso E Super to dance so nakedly together, without any other notes interfering. And then the mandarin is almost gone, leaving only the sublime simplicity of Molecule 01. That's what I love about Molecule 01 + Mandarin – it may be a dance between two, but the story changes completely from beginning to middle to end.” – Geza Schoen
“Molecule 01 is an extraordinary molecule—radiant, velvety, enveloping—with an indefinable allure. For some time now, I've been thinking about how I could play with this special fragrance in a different way. What if I could add another wonderful ingredient to it, to see how the two would begin to dance together in the bottle…? That is Molecule +.” – Geza Schön, Perfumer
Few other labels in modern perfumery have caused as much of a stir as Escentric Molecules: their ten fragrances are among the most sought-after worldwide. They originated in 2005 from an idea as audacious as it was ingenious: to create a perfume consisting of a single aroma molecule in its purest form. It all began with Molecule 01, featuring the abstract synthetic fragrance ISO E Super. Now, 16 years later: Molecule 01 is getting a "Plus One."
Today we proudly present the three new fragrances from Geza Schön – three fragrances in which Molecule 01 is combined with another individual fragrance ingredient: 01 + 1.
“Molecule + is Molecule 01 plus another olfactory component. If this had been another synthetic fragrance, the whole thing wouldn't have worked. The ‘plus one’ had to be a natural ingredient. Only natural fragrances have the complexity and charisma to engage in such a ‘pas de deux’ – while maintaining the simplicity of the fragrance concept.” – Geza Schön
The design
“Back when we were designing the packaging for Molecule 01, I wanted to create a visual equivalent to the way the fragrance spreads in the air. It’s a truly radiant molecule. We used dots, rings, and bubbles to represent that radial floral effect. With Molecule+, we revisited the Molecule 01 packaging and explored different ways of looking at it. We developed different scales for the dots and rings—from the micro to the macro level. We created something bolder and more graphic, but deeply rooted in the Molecule 01 visual language. When you combine Molecule 01 with another ingredient, you see the molecule through a different lens. We captured this by playing with materials that have great iridescent properties, colors that have a kind of Gaussian filter over them, with metallic tones layered on top.” – Paul White, Creative Director
