The rose fragrance from Officina Profumo Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella is a bouquet of floral notes reminiscent of the typical scent of the queen of perfumery, Rosa Centifolia, better known as the May rose. The rose is of ancient origin. Roses existed as early as the time of the Sumerians, roses are mentioned in the Iliad, and in 5th century BC China, the use of rose essence was reserved for the ruler and the nobles of the court. The Romans made extensive use of it: city streets were strewn with rose petals for celebrations, rose garlands were worn at banquets, and guests were sprayed with rose water. Records show that the Dominicans were already "trading" in rose water in 1381. In the language of flowers, it has different meanings depending on its color: "modesty" for white roses, "passion" for red, "infidelity" and "jealousy" for yellow roses.
